I have never been that interested about the essence of democracy in a country. Basically, I only know that power and decision lie from the people. However, the circumstances that I have observed in my country sparked my thoughts about its intent. Appointed leaders must be the protectors of bad attackers, but who are these villains we are talking about and beasts we are afraid about?

I have learned that my country, Philippines, does not really acquire the real essence of democracy. We have never been that democratic and free for ages. Herein, I learned that the word democracy is just a silver coat of the word ‘slavery’.

Existentially speaking, not everyone is hungry for the common good. Not everyone craves goodness and freedom. Life is relative and somehow, in someone’s point of view, fighting for the welfare of others is a waste of time. But that only proves inhumanity.

Humanity is not just being kind but the ability to defeat the fear however harsh you might become. That fear must result to thirst of determination to gain power, a good power to uplift just freedom, equality, and right justice. Hence, the power to preach the good.

In connection, the democratic system in the Philippines doesn’t equal to freedom. That’s a sad fact. Instead, it only favors the privilege and kicks the ordinary out from the control system. Ordinaries and civilians are unaware. Though they were, but they weren’t given the chance to be heard. Worse is, they were heard but they were ignored.

Victims have the power to defeat evil, but worse, that evil is smart enough to control the victims and less educated. This evil uses its knowledge to manipulate and swim with joy to the advantages and opportunities they can grow for their own prosperity.

Point being is that everyone must be rooted with bravery to defeat that evil. Everyone can be a victim of the fire that the devil lights. Playing with it can burn you. Without knowledge and wisdom, the devil can turn you into ashes.

Truth be told, elite also holds power. To attain real democracy is to block their opportunity and privilege to overpower and rule the inferiors. That is why it is important to study and choose leaders wisely. We have the power to create a well-developed system and society.

However, some of the people are jealous in nature. They prefer self-interest rather everyone’s freedom. Thus, everyone must defeat their fear and fight for the good. Although circumstances hindrance this will, it takes dauntless bravery to change the world.
